Replacements

Rau Ram:

  • Use Thai basil instead, or a mixture of herbs, like coriander, green onion, etc.

Gỏi Gà

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rau ram (Vietnamese coriander)
  • 3 chicken thighs
  • 1/4 onion, thinly sliced
  • Fish sauce dressing
    • 3-4 tbsp fish sauce
    • 4 tbsp water
    • 4 tbsp sugar
    • 1/2 lime
    • 1-2 garlic cloves chopped
    • 1 thai chili
  • Fried shallots
  • Roasted peanuts, green onion

Steps

Chicken

  1. Fill a pot of water with your chicken thighs and bring to a boil
  2. Boil for a 3-4 minutes and shut off the heat
  3. Leave the pot with the lid of for about 20-30 minutes
  4. Take the thighs out into a separate bowl, save the broth for another dish or to drink!
  5. Shred the chicken with forks or your hands.

Veggies

  1. Slice your 1/4 onion super thin
  2. Pick off all the leaves of your rau ram
  3. Wash both onion and leaves into a colander and dry thoroughly (I used a salad spinner)

Dressing

  1. Fill a bowl with sugar, minced garlic, minced chili (with or without seeds), and lime
  2. Mix well
  3. Add in fish sauce and water
  4. Adjust and add more fish sauce or water depending on how salty you like it

Assemble

  1. Place shredded chicken, sliced onion, and rau ram into a bowl and pour the dressing over everything
  2. Mix everything together with your hands or tongs
  3. Top with peanuts, green onion and fried shallot and enjoy!
